It is truly an honor to be asked to write the forward for the second edition of Iota Phi Theta and Its Ascendancy. This book was written by my Fraternity Brother, Founder John Danton Slade. John speaks candidly about the history of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. He also informs the reader of this vital era in the history of our country, such as; explosive race and class relations, an unpopular war and many other social and economic challenges. Founder Slade offers a different perspective to this time in our history. Founder Slade is a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army, a pioneer in the production and hosting of television programs and a university educator. John successfully identifies the congruence between the national environment and the Founding of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc.

John and I were dreamers along with the other ten Iota Founders. We believed that we could make a difference for young men and have a positive affect on our environment. Time will tell the outcome of our efforts. Some say that we were successful; however, we have not completely fulfilled our dream. Mediocrity is not and never will be a part of Iota or its Founders.

This book is not a glorification of the Founders and Brothers of Iota; instead it is a chronicle of events and personalities that formed an organization from birth to over thirty-thousand members. Enjoy reading this candid, historically accurate document about Iota Phi Theta Fraternity and Its Ascendancy.
